/Raised Garden Beds Built with Love
My first garden bed was ironically accessible. A little foreshadowing perhaps? It was a warm day in June when Derek and my dad pulled together some supplies from the renovation of Bunker and whipped together a garden bed on stilts. We wanted to bed to 1. Not kill the grass underneath and 2. Be tall enough to keep the deers out (we lined it with tall chicken wire).
When building this garden, we did drill holes in the bottom for drainage and added rocks before piling on the soil. A couple years later, we moved this bed to the back of the house and grew potatoes in it.
With Father’s Day quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking about how my dad and the father of Barkus (Derek) do so much for others. They both are incredibly giving people, willing to drop anything to help others. Derek certainly has a gift of handiness, and although it’s a little trickier to be hands-on now, he is always willing to answer questions or guide someone through a home renovation project.
